About the Centre

The Centre for Physical Activity and Health is a team of experts in the field of physical activity and public health. The Centre is staffed by public health researchers and epidemiologists with a special interest in physical activity and in health promotion. The Centre focuses on physical activity epidemiology, PA measurement research, the design and evaluation of interventions to increase physical activity and policy research related to physical activity and health. The Centre is located within the School of Public Health at the University of Sydney. It is co-located with centres for Obesity and Overweight and Public Health Nutrition. The centre conducts a number of international projects in the Asia pacific region and elsewhere around physical activity in the context of non-communicable disease prevention.
Most of the Centre's functions are supported by research grants, including the NHMRC. Part of the Centre is funded by NSW Health for the period 2002-2005; this is to service NSW professionals and the NSW Health Department in the area of physical activity information, policy and practice. The centre staff also have broader interests in behavioural epidemiology and in health promotion and disease prevention research.
